Herbert Cecil Victor Hall - Qualicum Beach

I am writing a book about a family that grew up in and around the Qualicum Beach area of Vancouver Island. I am looking for information about this family.

The patriarch of this family was Herbert Hall. Herbert, along with his wife Margaret and his daughter, Idris, came to Qualicum Beach in 1910 - they had emigrated from the U.K. They had another daughter, also named Margaret but nicknamed Miki, in 1912.

Herbert had been a developer in North Vancouver for a short time before moving on to Vancouver Island, and indeed was the first owner of the land on which now sits the old Qualicum Heritage Inn (presently under re-development). Prior to that it was the old Qualicum College which was so designated in 1935 by the Knight brothers who ran the school. Hall Road which runs along one side of that property was named after him. At the outbreak of World War I Herbert joined up, but died during the ferocious second Battle of Ypres in Belgium in July 1917.

While there certainly wouldn't be anyone alive who knew the man, his family -- wife, two daughters and, eventually, two grandchildren -- continued to return to the QB area over and over again. They continued to own property and the two grandchildren, Valri and Nile, attended the old schoolhouse (TOSH) in Qualicum Beach in 1934/35. His daughter Idris continued to visit QB until her death in the mid-1990s.

However, his other daughter, Miki (full name Margaret Verner Hall) lived exclusively on the east coast of Vancouver Island, primarily on the beach near Merville and Black Creek in a home she called Windsong. In 1990 she sold Windsong and moved into a condominium at Fairway Place in Comox where she died in 1993.

If anyone who reads this has heard of anyone in the Hall family, particularly if they know of any information about their early days in the QB area, I would be most grateful to hear from them.

I have added a separate tribute/request for Miki Hall who was a member of the RCAF during the Second World War.

Thank you.
