I have a story to tell. Not about me, but about one of the many heroic soldiers. He was my great great grandfather, Thomas Webb. Thomas was born in Kent England, in the year 1890. Thomas was twenty-four years old and living in Aldergrove, when he was drafted to fight in World War 1. Thomas took a ship to France, to fight in the battle of Vimy Ridge, one of the biggest battles in the area. He fought in the front line of the battle. While Thomas was fighting he got shot three times, twice in the leg and once in the arm. While the war was still going on people checked for soldier survivors on the battlefield. Thomas was laying there and when they checked him, Thomas didn't show any sign that he was alive. They left him to die. When they checked again, someone heard Thomas groan. They shipped my great great grandfather to England where Thomas spent many months recovering. Thomas then returned to his home land in Aldergrove. After being in Aldergrove for twenty years, Thomas was drafted yet again to serve in World War 2. The war was from 1939-1945. Thomas served in world war 2 as a soldier but as a cook. Thomas's injuries prevented him from fighting on the battlefield. Thomas was a cook for the army recruits in basic training. Thomas lived out his life knowing that he fought to make the world a better place. This story was told to me by my grandmother who is the granddaughter of Thomas Webb.
