My Grandpa was a German Soldier in World War II. He was drafted to go fight in the war, he did not have a choice. He quickly became a prisoner of war in England. After a few years of decoding German signals for the English, the English could no longer afford to feed the prisoners. My Grandpa was sent by boat to the U.S.A. to pick cotton, he then was sent to work on the railroads in Washington State. He saw the beautiful Mountains. He asked what was up north and was told it was Canada. When the war was over and my Grandpa was let go. He decided to go to Canada for a better life. He went back to Germany only to get my Nana to bring her back to live in Canada. He said he would never go back to Germany. The war was difficult but in the end my Grandpa and Nana had a happy life in Canada.
