Betty Paterson WW II Veteran

Betty was born in Montreal Quebec on the 28th of March 1926.  She enlisted in the Canadian Air Force in June of 1944 and served in the Postal Corps in Ottawa where she said her job was to "keep the men happy" by ensuring they got their mail. She was a recipient of the CVSM and the Canadian War Medal. She was discharged the 12th of July 1946 and settled down in the Victoria BC area with her husband David and had five children, Donald, Susan, John, James and David. She became an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary in 1965 in Branch 54 Sooke BC. She became an Ordinary Member in 1970 and was involved in every aspect of the Legion including Volunteer Bar Tending and various positions on the Executive (once serving as Treasurer for 11 years).  She was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal with Palm Leaf, the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal, and other Meritorious Medals for her volunteerism in the Community. She continues to be heavily involved in other Volunteer Organizations in Sooke including the Seniors Housing Project. In 1983 she was made a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 54 Sooke.
