In Remembrance of Sgt. C. C. Jacklin

Born in Hamilton, ON, in 1897 he spent his boyhood on the prairies. In 1915, he enlisted for overseas service with the 51st Battalion, C.E.F. During WWI, he served in France between 1916 and 1919 with the 2nd Battalion Machine Guns, fighting in historic battles such as, The Somme, Pachendale and Vimy Ridge. He was with the Army of Occupation in Germany after the war. He came directly to BC after the war and in 1925 joined the BC Provincial Police (before they changed over to the RCMP). He was the fifth man in the province to receive the BC Police uniform.

Chris Jacklin, as he was known, was an active member of the Nanaimo Branch #10 Canadian Legion, Keystone Chapter, one of the founding members of the Victoria Legion and fraternally a member of the A.F. & A. M. In November 1953 the Royal Canadian Legion honoured Chris Jacklin with a 25 year pin indicating his long service with the war veterans.

In the RCMP he took charge of the Victoria, Prince Rupert, Kamloops and Nanaimo detachments. Sergeant Chris Jacklin retired from the RCMP after 31 years. Chris also served as a member of Nanaimo City Council.

Chris passed away on July 10th, 1956 at the age of 58. Sgt C. C. Jacklin was much loved. Newspaper articles of his death reported a "loss to Community" and mentioned him as "One of Nanaimo's best known and popular figures".
