Milton Soldiers of the Great War

Although not born in Milton (Ontario, Canada) I have lived here with my family since 1976, so more than 30 years now and I can for sure call it home. As an avid Great War researcher, I wanted to help the community learn about what "their soldiers" did in the Great War. When I was a High School Student back in the '60's we learned about Ypres, Passchendaele, Vimy and Amiens. Now, most students know very little if anything. My goal was to help bring the past to light by taking Milton's Great War Soldiers to the Internet age.

I started first with a Blog which has been updated and now appears at this address:

After that, I became a member of the Milton Historical Society so that I could help them advance that history even more. Using each of the soldier's historical service records at Library and Archives Canada, I built a profile of each soldier to show how he came to be what he was when he enlisted. Some soldiers died in Canada before they saw service, some died on the battlefields of France and Flanders. Some survived and so they fortunately do not appear in this memorial. For those that perished on the battlefield, I searched the unit war diaries to find out where and how they were killed. You can find all of that information now on their web site here:

Working with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and the Maple Leaf Legacy Project, we have taken the Milton Soldiers to the ultimate modern destination. They are now remembered on GOOGLE EARTH, one of the first (if not the first) group of soldiers to be profiled in this manner. You can read about them and see their grave sites in France and Flanders, so take a moment and "fly there" with the troop:

Each year I hope to add more to the site and to cover more of the soldiers that are on memorials in the surrounding area. I hope to see interest in the community to participate in this project. Several other communities are already participating and new blog sites are already in existence. We are, as I always hope,
