This is a special tribute to my Grandfather and it comes on the 90th Anniversary of Vimy Ridge, France.
My Grandfther's name Pte. Walter Ernest Parker. He bravely fought & died at Vimy Ridge on April 9th, 1917 at age 39 years old.
He served with the 78th Bat. Canadian Infantry, (Manitoba Regiment) He fought in the 12th Candian Infantry Bat. in the 4th Canadian Div.
My husband and I had the honour to go to Northern France, and see Vimy Ridge and the rest of the First World War battlefields, in Sept. 2007. My grandfather's name is on the beautiful Vimy Ridge Memorial. We saw the battlefield where he fought. Our guide took us to a small cemetery called Givenchy en Gohelle a Canadian Cemetery. This is where my Grandfather fought and we think where he died. I chose 1 of 3 unknown 78th Battalion graves and put a small wood cross (with a poppy in the centre) in front of it.
